The Mind Behind Dezeynne
Kavita Kapil
founder + creative director of dezeynne studio
I discovered Dezeynne Studio back in 2020 when they just opened up their studio. I was first drawn to the design of the space. It was not over done with furniture and props, it left room for addition which was something so important to my preference. After shooting at this studio for over a year, I became their in house photographer and our relationship has evolved into the most amazing partnership.
One thing that some people may not know is that Dezeynne is not only a creative studio but also a design agency. Kavita Kapil who is the founder of Dezeynne and I work closely with our clients for brand identity, brand strategy and brand photography. I interviewed Kavita to ask her a few questions to shed some light on her company. Here’s what she had to say.
Why did you choose to open a studio in Brampton?
During a previous business venture, I learned about the creative community here in Brampton, and I didn't realize how large it actually was! And it got me thinking- why don't we have a beautiful space, here in Brampton, for this creative community to gather? A place where they can create beautiful content and not have to drive an hour downtown to do so. We wanted to fill that gap in the market, and open up a studio that had a centralized location for those who lived outside of the Downtown Toronto core.
What inspired you to open your studio?
Design has always been my passion! Whether it's graphic design, interior design, architecture, fashion; my love goes deep. It has always been a goal of mine to open a creative studio (more specifically, a creative agency), it was just a matter of when I felt ready to do so.
After working in the fashion industry for a few years, I learned so much about branding and marketing design and how much of an impact it made on a global level. It was so great working with these brands, but after a while, I felt like I wanted to do more. I wanted to use this knowledge and experience to help multiple businesses, instead of just the one business I was working for. So in 2017, I took the leap and decided to branch out to start my own creative agency and haven't looked back since!
What is the mind behind the design of the studio?
My friends and family often say that if Dezeynne was personified as a person, it would be personified as me haha. It's contemporary, minimal, feminine, and a little bit whimsical. We have strong brand values and everything we do is intentional and for the purpose of adding value into the work of our clients. We set ourselves apart with our contemporary aesthetics, and our clients and customers are always at the forefront of what we do.
Is your studio being used to create the type of content you would like to see?
Yes! When I first opened up the studio, I imagined that the studio would be used primarily for editorial-style photoshoots (because of my background in fashion). But after a few months into the business, I realized that it is being used for so much more than that and it's so inspiring to see. We have such a wide array of content that comes out of this studio - everything from branding shoots, to product photography, to family photos, and it's so cool to see how versatile the space is for all of this type of content.
Do you have plans to expand Dezeynne? If so, can you share a little behind the scenes information with us?
Yes 100%! I don't typically like to share expansion plans before they are in fruition, but I will say this - Dezeynne's future plans consist of expanding its service offerings, as well as adding a new location (or two) into the mix. Our goal is to become the ultimate creative hub for all of the amazing talent we have in the GTA.
What is one thing people should know about you?
I’m a massive psychology nerd. When I’m not designing, you will find me reading books about self-development, social psychology, and spirituality. I love learning about how the mind works and how someone’s past experiences shape their current thoughts, behaviours, and actions.
